Released in January 2015, Uptown Special is the fourth studio album by British DJ and producer Mark Ronson. It marked his first album in nearly five years, following Record Collection (2010), and was dedicated to his late friend and collaborator Amy Winehouse.
Musically, the record blends funk, soul, and pop with Ronson’s signature retro-modern production style. The album is best known for its breakout single “Uptown Funk,” featuring Bruno Mars, which became one of the biggest hits of the decade. The song topped charts worldwide, spending 14 consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and winning multiple Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year.
The album also includes collaborations with Stevie Wonder, Kevin Parker of Tame Impala, and Mystikal, among others. Its mix of vintage influences and contemporary flair helped it resonate with both critics and a global audience.
Uptown Special became Ronson’s first UK number one album, while reaching number two in Australia and number five in the United States. Beyond its chart success, the record solidified Ronson’s reputation as one of the leading producers of the era, capable of bridging pop accessibility with deep musical craft.
